Straight styli with a ruby ball and a carbide stem have been developed for use on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and provide a reliable solution for demanding measurement applications. The combination of a carbide stem and a precision ruby ball offers maximum rigidity, high stability, and excellent measurement performance.
The carbide stem is characterized by its exceptional stiffness and minimizes unwanted deflection, even in longer stylus configurations. This supports precise and highly repeatable measurement results. At the same time, the high inherent rigidity improves measuring performance when using delicate stylus geometries and small ball diameters.
The ruby ball is the proven standard in tactile metrology. Thanks to its high hardness, dimensional stability, and wear resistance, it is suitable for measuring a wide range of materials and geometries. Ruby remains one of the most widely used ball materials for tactile probing systems worldwide and offers an outstanding combination of precision, cost-effectiveness, and durability.
Due to the high rigidity of the carbide stem, this stylus design is particularly suitable for applications with increased accuracy requirements as well as probing systems with small ball diameters, where minimal stem deflection is critical for achieving reliable measurement results.
