Straight styli with a silicon nitride ball and a carbide stem have been developed for everyday use on coordinate measuring machines and provide a reliable solution for a wide range of measurement tasks. The combination of a carbide stem and a precision silicon nitride ball offers high rigidity, robust construction, and excellent durability. The carbide stem is characterized by its exceptional stiffness and minimizes unwanted deflection, even at longer stylus lengths. This supports precise and repeatable measurement results. Its high inherent rigidity also enhances measurement performance when using delicate stylus geometries and small ball diameters. Depending on the measuring system, this product group is available with holders of Ø10.0 mm, Ø11.0 mm, and Ø12.0 mm. Silicon nitride balls are particularly suitable for measuring and scanning workpieces made of untreated aluminum. Compared to conventional ruby balls, they are less prone to material adhesion, reducing the buildup of deposits on the ball surface. This contributes to consistently high measurement quality and improved process reliability. As a result, they are the preferred choice for applications where aluminum components are measured or scanned on a regular basis. The product range includes styli with ball diameters from Ø1.5 mm to Ø10.0 mm, covering a wide variety of typical measurement applications.
